The illusion of certainty
The illusion of certainty
Performance as part of the NO W HERE #3 Festival, Goslar, July 2024
Duration: 16 min
Material: black fabric, black suit, small drum, white gloves, blue pigment, feathers, suit made of rescue blankets, wreath of ivy, sparklers, sound.
The performer walks up a ramp and beats a small drum, then puts on white gloves and paints her bare feet and face with blue pigment. She then walks backwards up the stairs, leaving blue footprints behind her. Voices now sound from a loudspeaker, reading out fragments of anthems of European nations. She holds five feathers in each hand and turns in circles until she staggers. Now she puts on a gold-coloured suit (material from rescue blankets).
She marches on the spot. She then places an ivy wreath on her head, which is decorated with burning sparklers. With her arm outstretched, she shows a clenched fist. After the sparklers have burnt down, she takes off the wreath, lies down on the stairs and closes her eyes. The sound can still be heard. -End-
